Dear Delegates of General Assembly Second Committee (ECOFIN),
My name is Sameer Salman, and it is my honour to serve as your Chair for GA2 at DISMUN 2.7. I bring to this role four years of experience as a delegate and one year as a Co-Chair—time enough to understand clearly what distinguishes a committee that leaves a lasting mark from one that merely follows procedure. I pledge to uphold the highest standards from the dais: I will not only guide our debate, but challenge it to reach meaningful, constructive outcomes.
Likewise, I expect you to do more than simply simulate democracy. I invite you to advocate passionately for your positions, amplify underrepresented perspectives, and engage seriously with urgent global issues to craft solutions that stand up to rigorous examination. Whether this is your first Model United Nations or your eighth, I trust you will join us ready to participate with purpose and a genuine commitment to making a difference.
Beyond the debate, resolutions, and late-night bloc negotiations, remember that this experience will stay with you long after the conference ends. GA2 will be rigorous and demanding—but it will also be unforgettable.
The bar has been set high; I encourage you to rise to meet it.
