SIXTH FORM

 

Our sixth-form curriculum is thoughtfully designed to challenge students and to expand their horizons beyond the classroom setting. It aims to foster both academic and practical skills, preparing students for future success.

Academic programme

The Sixth Form (Key Stage 5) encompasses the final two years of secondary education, during which students prepare for their A-level examinations. Participation in this programme is optional. Year 12 (AS Level) is the first year, followed by Year 13 (A2 Level). A/AS Levels are internationally recognized qualifications that provide excellent preparation for university study.

A Levels were introduced in 2006 and have since expanded into a comprehensive Sixth Form program. Currently, students can choose from 17 A Level subjects, allowing for a pure A Level pathway with three or four subjects, or a mixed pathway combining BTEC courses with A Levels.

Cambridge / Pearson Edexcel Advanced Level Subjects:

PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, BUSINESS, ECONOMICS, ACCOUNTING, ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT*, PSYCHOLOGY, MEDIA STUDIES, SOCIOLOGY, ENGLISH LANGUAGE, HISTORY, ART & DESIGN, COMPUTER SCIENCE.

(ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT- offered only  at AS levelby CAIE )

BTEC International Level 3 Advanced Subsidiary Diploma:

  • BTEC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
  • BTEC BUSINESS

  Mandatory Subjects

  • Islamic Studies for Muslim students, Value Education for Non Muslims.
  • Arabic A, Islamic A & Moral Education for native Arabic speakers.
  • Physical Education.

Curriculum Enrichment Programmes: Skill 16

Life at Diyafah is about purpose. The school provides a platform to develop within your own academic areas of interest and expertise and also to develop personal skills that aid the transition into University and the world of work. Developing the individual is at the heart of the Diyafah model and one, which is more than just rhetoric. We build this into our curriculum and devote one dedicated lesson each week to the SKILLs16 (a post-16 enrichment program)and that allows all pupils in the Sixth Form the opportunity to develop a range of skills in and out of classroom environment.

We take personal development as an essential ingredient to success and the Diyafah experience will take many pupils into areas not previously encountered. Leadership, time management, resilience, perseverance are just some of the qualities and traits that Diyafites will become proficient in, as they follow the Sixth Form journey.

Some of the core skills we focus on are:

1. Student Well Being: Focuses on the emotional, mental, and physical health of students

  • Includes topics such as stress management, self-care, mindfulness, and resilience
  • Aims to help students develop a positive mindset and maintain a healthy work-life balance
  • Includes workshops, group discussions, or one-on-one sessions with counselors or mentors

2. Essential Life Skills: Focus on developing practical skills that are essential for daily life
    Includes topics such as:

  • Time management and organization
  • Financial literacy and budgeting
  • Goal setting and planning
  • Activities like Sewing, Tyre changing, Fix a quick meal, Dress to impress etc
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution
  • Includes workshops, group discussions, or online resources and tools

3. Community Outreach: Encourages students to get involved in their community and give back to society
    Includes topics such as:

  • Volunteering and community service
  • Leadership and teamwork skills
  • Social responsibility and civic engagement
  • Building relationships and networks
  • Includes community service projects, volunteer opportunities, or leadership development programs
