Very dependable, and the two top loading USB slots are great and very convenient for USB flash drives. Now, these fine hubs are getting a bit hard to find.This product is slim, stylish, has great looks, even fits in a laptop case, and of course is is Belkin quality. Cons: Nothing not to be happy with here. Overall Review: The box with these two hubs in it came exceedingly crushed by some neanderthals at UPS. but again. Newer ones (3-4 mo) leds only light on active ports not all. Unreliable power out,despite huge powersupply bricks. Frequent connection issues. One of the newer ones just killed 2 flash drives and smells bad. I am chucking them all and starting over. Note:This review originally written in late 2007,submitted again as product was a disaster,and appears the same as it was then 8 out of 8 people found this review helpful. Cons: But it doesn't last for long. I've now ground my second one into dust. For the last month it's been running very hot and randomly dropping connection on all ports (mostly the top two.) Finally, I am left with only one port on the back that still works. And this is the second Belkin F5U237 this has happened on. So, I'll buy another. Overall Review: My conclusion is that most USB hubs provide inadequate power to drive as much gear as they make it possible to connect. But this particular hub sucks less - power isn't a problem, only longevity. So, time to order a couple more.
4 out of 4 people found this review helpful. Good design that may have created future problems. Eight months out of a well used hub is not too bad. Cons: Six months and then problems.Always ran hot. The design encouraged you to plug in and out a lot.I do plug in thumb drives but don't leave them in place to get knocked around. I do not handle the new hub anywhere near as much. Overall Review: This was used on my personal machine, so I beat it up a bit. I liked the design, but I felt it contributed to it's demise. I would leave thumb drives in the top ports and would often hit them moving stuff.Those ports started having problems after about six months, but the main thing that finally killed this hub was the plug in the back for the power. Since it was a plug and it is straight in. I would often pull it out every time I would move the hub. I had crimped it a bit to make it hold better, but it still pulled out. Finally the thing would not be reconized unless you played with the connector, and since the top ports were already hinkey it was time to get a new hub. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. The lifetime warranty doesn't make up for the fact that they die about every 6 months. Whjo knows what goes on during the failure mode, and what other damge it could do. I'm mailing this one back and trying another brand Overall Review: It's a shame really, the product was designed well in terms of ergonomics and capacity.If you buy two, you can stack them neatly and you end up with 4 top ports (good for thumb drives, bluetooth adaptors, and other 'sticks') and 9 rear ports (you lose one when you daisy chain). I had to do this for an older machine that has three external drives, two different iPod connectors, UPS connection, thumb drive, wireless mouse, bluetooth, keyboard, printer, scanner, and why do I have so much stuff? 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
