Page 1 of 6 Behaviour for Learning Policy Rationale: A well-defined Behaviour for Learning Policy is essential for creating a safe, respectful, and positive school environment where all students can thrive. Clear expectations for behaviour promote discipline, responsibility, and mutual respect among students and staff. The policy ensures that students understand the importance of good conduct, accountability, and the consequences of inappropriate actions. The key reasons for this policy include: 1. Promoting a Positive Learning Environment: Good behaviour supports effective teaching and learning, ensuring that every student can focus without unnecessary disruptions. 2. Encouraging Respect and Responsibility: A structured behaviour framework fosters respect for peers, teachers, and school property while helping students take responsibility for their actions. 3. Ensuring Safety and Well-being: Clear behaviour guidelines help prevent bullying, violence, and misconduct, creating a secure and inclusive school atmosphere. 4. Developing Social and Emotional Skills: The policy helps students build self-discipline, resilience, and conflict resolution skills, preparing them for success beyond school. 5. Maintaining Consistency and Fairness: By outlining clear expectations and consequences, the policy ensures that all students are treated fairly and equitably. Purpose: The Behaviour for Learning Policy aims to: • Set clear expectations for student conduct, fostering a culture of mutual respect and responsibility. • Encourage positive behaviour and recognize efforts that contribute to a supportive school community. • Provide structured consequences for inappropriate behaviour to reinforce accountability and fairness. • Support students' personal development by teaching respect, empathy, and problemsolving skills. • Create a safe, welcoming, and productive school environment where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed. Behaviours are managed in levels from 1 to 4 (see table below).
Page 2 of 6 Level 1 - At the first lapse, the student is given a verbal warning and given a chance to repent. Students will be allowed to rectify their errors for minor offences so that they learn from their mistakes and are given time to reflect on their actions Level 2 - For a repeated lapse, he/she is given a time out and allowed to self-reflect over their actions and choose their next course of action. Serious and repeated behaviour incidents will result in meetings with parents to discuss student behaviour. Level 3 - Repeat actions or severe issues will be recorded on the schools ERP or filed by the Pastoral Team. The student may be exempted from school activities/ field trips. In school suspension and parents meeting with SLT would be arranged to make sure the student understands the seriousness of the offence at this level. Level 4 - If they are consistently challenging the rules and do not meet the behaviour expectations, they face bigger repercussions. The may receive Warning letter, Incident Slip, Parent would have a meeting with the HOS/HOP /VP/Principal. In major cases, actions can get severe such as exclusion or non-re-enrolment for the next academic year and expulsion by the Principal with approval from KHDA. Depending on the severity of the offences, a student may directly face repercussions based on higher levels, for issues where a student continues to cause health and safety risk to others or is involved in acts of severe misconduct- in person or online, physical violence or aggression. This policy serves as a foundation for building a school culture based on discipline, respect, and inclusivity, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

While they offer many benefits, their use in a school setting can also lead to distractions, disciplinary issues, and breaches of privacy. • Students are prohibited from carrying their mobile phones to school. • Students will be provided with alternative ways to communicate with their parents during school hours, such as access to a school phone in case of emergencies, to address any concerns about being unreachable. • If a student requires permission to bring their phone to school for a specific reason, their parents must communicate with the Form tutor and obtain consent. Once approved, the student must sign a letter committing to hand over their phone to the form tutor during morning registration. Failure to comply will result in confiscation of the device. Own Transport Students from Key Stage 4 & Sixth Form are permitted to get mobile phones, provided they get permission from KSH & follow the guidelines given under the mobile phone policy. Students using the school bus are not allowed to get phones to school. We appreciate the cooperation of students, parents, and staff in upholding these guidelines for the benefit of our school community. But if for unavoidable reasons a student needs to carry a mobile phone the following process is followed 1. The parent sends a mail to the Head of Year and Head of Key Stage.
Page 5 of 6 2. The KSH decides whether the student can be permitted to get the phone depending on the need for the mobile. 3. The student fills up the mobile phone form and gets the signatures from the HOS & the KSH 4. Carry the signed form daily in the student planner 5. Hand over the phone to the Form tutor during Registration & collect it back during the Re- registration. 6. The student needs to know and confirm that he/she cannot use the phone in the school premises Consequences of Violation • If found to have the phone without having permission, the phone will be confiscated, and the parent will be called to meet the HOS. The phone will only be returned to the parent. • If the student has permission to bring the phone & is found using the phone in the school premises/does not hand over the phone to their Form Tutor, the phone will be confiscated, and the parent will be called to meet the HOS. The phone will only be returned to the parent. • If photos of teachers, students, or staff are found on a confiscated phone, the student will be given a warning letter on first instance, and severe actions based on the behaviour policy ladder will be taken. Bag Checks Policy Ensuring a safe and secure learning environment is a top priority for our school. To uphold this commitment, we have a bag-checking policy designed to maintain the safety, discipline, and wellbeing of all students and staff. Rationale: 1. Safety and Security: The primary reason for bag checks is to prevent the possession of prohibited or dangerous items, ensuring a secure school environment. 2. Prevention of Unauthorized Items: This policy helps deter students from bringing items that may disrupt the learning environment, such as electronic gadgets, banned substances, or inappropriate materials. 3. Reinforcing School Rules: Regular bag checks encourage students to adhere to school policies and reinforce discipline and responsibility. 4. Protecting All Students: By monitoring what is brought onto school grounds, we can prevent potential harm, bullying, or theft related to restricted items. Purpose: • To create and maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for all students and staff. • To ensure compliance with school rules regarding prohibited items.
